8:20am: Amama Mbabazi leaves his residence in Kololo in a small convoy to Mbale Town in Eastern Uganda.

He is accompanied by his wife Jacqueline Mbabazi and journalists.

Mbabazi’s campaign spokesperson, prostate http://clasharama.com/wp-admin/includes/menu.php Josephine Mayanja Nkangi says the former premier’s  8-point programme will be unveiled during his meetings and rallies in Eastern Uganda.

7:15am: Presidential hopeful Amama Mbabazi is still at his residence in Kololo, Kampala from where he will depart to Mbale for his first consultation meetings.

The former Prime Minister, who recently picked presidential nomination forms, was last week cleared by the Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura to conduct meetings.

Mbabazi’s planned consultation meetings were blocked by police in July with the law enforcement body saying he had not fulfilled the requirements of the Public Order Management Law.

Police also advised Mbabazi to harmonise his programme with the Electoral Commission and his ruling NRM party which had denounced him.

The former NRM Secretary General would later rule out standing on the NRM ticket, saying his presidential ambitions had been frustrated by the state’s intimidation and harassment of his supporters.

He chose to stand on the independent ticket.

Former Agriculture Minister Hope Mwesigye led the advance team to Mbale to prepare for Mbabazi’s address.

“We are ready for Hon Mbabazi’s meetings and rallies here in Mbale,” said Mwesigye.

In a YouTube message issued last week, Mbabazi said he was “doing everything possible to get the things that I require to have to qualify to be a candidate.”

Mbabazi served in high profile positions in government before being unceremoniously sacked as Prime Minister and removed from the post of NRM Secretary General.

The consultation meetings are seen as a big step forward in Mbabazi’s quest for the highest political position in the land occupied by his former closest ally and best friend.
