A member of parliament has been placed under house arrest at the residence of jailed former security minister Lt. Gen Henry Tumukunde
According to reports, Tororo Woman MP Annet Nyakecho was detained at the house located in Kololo last night.
The residence was cordoned off by a police and military joint security team led by the head of Police Criminal Investigations Grace Akullo.
Gen Tumukunde was subsequently arrested and is now facing treason charges over his recent comments in the media.
Reports which emerged Friday morning indicated that Hon Nyakecho and other unnumbered people, including Gen Tumukunde’s son, were found at the residence during the raid. These were meeting the General in the evening hours.
They were reportedly told they couldn’t leave.
Hon Fredrick Angura of Tororo South told ChimpReports he had seen footage of his colleague Nyakecho under house arrest.
“Unfortunately, that’s all we’ve heard since then; I have seen the footage, but I haven’t received any formal communication on whether she has been arrested or what is going on,” Angura said.
By publication of this story, Nyakecho’s phone numbers had been switched off.
Police spokesman Fred Enanga did not respond to our request for comments.
A statement he earlier put out about the raid of Tumukunde’s residence made no mention of other people that were found at the house.
