The African Football Back in Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt

African football fans should get ready for some action as Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt plan to re-open their main leagues. Punters on Betway can now begin betting on the various African league teams. However, the fans might have to wait for much longer to get into the stadiums as the health protocols don’t allow gatherings.

The Botola Pro 1 is back

After a four-month break, Morocco has chosen to restart the Major League Football tournament. Before the current global pandemic halted the Botola, Wydad Athletic were top of the table. With nine games remaining in the league, Wydad will be hoping to stay on top.

Their closest competitors for the top spot Raja Club Athletic will also be hoping to catch up. They suffered a slight setback after their draw with Difaa Hassani d’el-Jadida. In other matches played Raja Casablanca and Difaa El Jadidi played out a goalless draw. Raja Beni Mellal suffered a 1-0 defeat to Hassania Agadir.

Players and fans have to adjust to games being played behind closed doors. Those betting on games on Betway must rethink their strategy as teams no longer have home fans backing them in the stadiums. Among the conditions for the resumption of sports is to play games in an empty stadium. Fans will have to follow matches from their devices to keep social distancing protocols.

North African Football is expected to resume

In a fortnight, North African football fans should expect their major league tournaments to begin. African football giants Egypt and Tunisia are gearing up for a restart.

In Tunisia, football was suspended in March and is expected to resume in August, albeit behind closed doors. The teams began their closed-door training in June in preparation for the tournament.

The FTF, in consultation with the health ministry in Tunisia, issued the restart plan in May. Players had to commit to following preventive measures. They were also expected to undergo frequent assessments and medical tests.

Four times CAF Champions League winners Esperance Sportive de Tunis are on top of the Ligue 1 with Club Sportif Sfaxien a distant second.

In Egypt, football fans should expect action on the pitches from August 6th. The Egyptian Football Association stated that the league would resume in phases. The postponed games will be played first before clubs played the rest of the matches.

The second phase will begin from September 1st to the end of the season. The African Champions League and Confederation cup matches will also affect the match schedules. However, like in other countries where football as resumed, there are health protocols the clubs must follow.

The health safety guidelines required players to be tested twice every five days. Some players tested positive and are in isolation. Before the break, Al-Ahly were top of the league with 49 points after playing 17 matches.

CAF Champion’s League

The CAF Champions League games that are remaining are also expected to be played. With these additional matches, football punters on Betway will have more games to wager on. The two semi-finals will be played home and away between Morocco and Egypt. The tournament organizers are yet to announce where the finals will be held. However, should a team from either country reach the finals, CAF will choose a neutral location.

Bottom Line

As sporting action returns in Africa, all the stakeholders have the responsibility to maintain the safety of the players, staff, and public in general. Staying safe will ensure the return to normalcy is sooner.
