Teenager Jailed for Stealing KCCA Solar Batteries

City Hall grade one Magistrate Valerian Tumuhimbise has convicted a 15-year-old juvenile for stealing batteries of two solar street lights belonging to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

This suspect (names withheld) was convicted on his own guilty plea after being read the charges.

According to facts before court the convict with others still at large on September 25th 2019 at Jinja Road Nakawa in Kampala, stole the two solar Street light batteries belonging to KCCA estimated to cost 2.8 Million shillings

He was sent to Kampiringisa Rehabilitation Centre to serve a two-month sentence.

The Magistrate in his ruling said the sentence will help the convict to reform.

Being a minor, the magistrate said, the suspect could have committed the offence with the help of adults who are still at large.

The sentence, he added, will serve a lesson to juvenile offenders and to deter other children to commit the same crime.
