Kampala metropolitan police on Monday raided Kabojja Junior School and Dafodils School in kololo, Central Division, Kampala for defying Presidential directives on closing institutions of learning as a move to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Police, a total of 5 students and 76 teachers were nabbed in the operation.
The deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire released a statement insisting that the police was left with no option but to apprehend to individuals disobeying the president’s directives.
“At Kabojja we got five students and 23 teachers and at Dafodils School there were only Teachers and Staff members totaling to 53,” Owneyesigire notes.
The statement adds, “the teachers from both schools alleged that their Directors and Head teachers had called them to go to school and email students their homework which they compiled with.”
Police notes that teachers of Kabojja alleged that they were informed to go to school in order to pick their pay-cheques.
One Kabojja student however claims that he had gone to do interviews and that the four others are children of staff members.
ChimpReports has learnt that the group was taken to Kira Road Police Station.
“We want to thank members of the public for being vigilant and for giving us timely information of institutions, places, and individuals who are trying to defy the Presidential directives. Together we shall defeat this enemy (Covid19),” police maintains.
