Jamaican-Amarican reggae star, Tarrus Riley real name Tarrus Omar arrived in Uganda yesterday ahead of the Swangz Avenue All-Star concert slated for this Friday at Cricket Oval Lugogo.
A press conference for the dread locked singer and member of the Rastafarian movement was organized by Swangz Avenue this morning, Wednesday 29th August 2018 at Mestil Hotel in Nsambya.
While addressing the media, the ‘Just the way you are’ hit maker expressed his happiness for finally being in the country. “It is a humble pleasure to be here, thank you for everybody who has made it possible for me to be here,” Tarrus Riley stated.
He added, “Thank you for your kind words, Africa is home. I am actually a local African artist. I am excited to share the music I want to give you the best concert you have ever seen.”
Organizers also disclosed that it is going to be live performances only come 31st August for all performers.
“Thank you to all Ugandans for supporting us for the past 10years. I am extremely overwhelmed by all this and the presence of Tarrus Riley…indeed dreams come true,” said Swangz Avenue’s Benon Mugumbya.
Tarrus Riley arrived with a crew from Jamaica including award winning saxophonist/singer Dean Ivanhoe Fraser and Koriq, a singer and part of Tarrus’s band.
Ugandans expected to share stage with the globally celebrated star include Bebe Cool, Madoxx Sematimba, Vinka, Winnie Nwagi, Ykee Benda, Weasel and Viboyo among others that have worked with Swangz Avenue.
The main focus of this ‘All-star national music celebration’ campaign is to celebrate, appreciate Ugandan music and it coincides with the 10-year anniversary of the Muyenga based record label that has nurtured some of the biggest artists the country has today.
Swangz Avenue partnered with a number of corporate companies on this project including; Bell Jamz, Pespi, Africell Uganda, Capital FM, NBT TV and Mestil Hotel among others.
