Local and International students studying from Uganda have petitioned the Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga asking her to look into the delayed funding of the students by the East African Community (EAC).
Menya Erusaniya, the chairperson the Students body asked Kadaga to ask other member state countries through their Parliaments to launch investigation into the whereabouts of the 322 Million US Dollars which was donated to the EAC to support the students
The money is said to have come from the United States Agency for International Development and the Federal Republic of Germany, aimed at supporting different education projects in the region.
Menya says the students have been receiving some facilitation from the EAC but for some months now they have not received the money nor any form of accountability on how the previous disbursement was spent.
This Association called “Students Body” was created in 2016 to link students at various levels with the government in order to solve the conflicts which had become rampant in most institutions if learning.
These have also petitioned the East African court of Justice seeking for immediate intervention in the matter.
