The Western region’s league side Bugamba Football Club defied all odds by knocking StarTimes Uganda Premier League club Onduparaka FC out of the tournament following a 1-0 win.
Reagan Bamwesigye scored the all-important goal of the well-attended match.
The game was played at the rural Bugamba grounds in the newly created Rwampara district on Wednesday evening.
Bugamba Football Club was formed and is based in Bugamba village in the newly created district of Rwampara, recently curved off Mbarara District.
It is a newly created and promoted team into the Western region league and are currently in fifth position in the Ankole group.
They have a big number of local players who have grown up in Mbarara, studied in Mbarara and had their football career grown and developed in Mbarara.
“We have made history and this is what we have been working for. We are through to the round of 32 and if God helps us and we draw for a home game, there is no team that will survive here because we have never lost a game here,” Bugamba head coach Salim Twaha said.
Now Bugamba made the grade to the round of 32 and will eagerly wait for the draw in the prestigious tournament that kicked off in 1971.
