Ssekatawa Officially Hands Over Power to Kiiza As New URA FC Chairman

Just seven months into his second term in office as Uganda Revenue Authority football club chairman, try Ali Ssekatawa has on Wednesday officially handed over office to Mr. James Kiiza.

Kiiza an assistant commissioner general, pharm information technology at URA was last week on Friday appointed interim chairman to replace Ssekatawa who has since left the authority and joined Uganda Oil and Petroleum Authority as head of legal and corporate services.

Ssekatawa handed over instruments of power to Kiiza on Wednesday in a press briefing held at the authority’s headquarters in Nakawa, Kampala and indicated it has been a worthwhile experience leading a great team.

“I must say it was a great opportunity to lead a big club like URA football club and I’m pleased that while in office I brought trophies to the club,” he said.

“It is unfortunate that I leave even before the end of my term but I’m fully convinced that the  incoming chairman will preserve and uplift the image of the club,”

“Mr. Kiiza is a gentleman I have worked with closely, he is been active in the club activities and I believe he will take the team to greater heights,” he said.

Kiiza has contested for chairmanship twice including last year where he overwhelmingly lost to Ssekatawa getting 44 votes while the outgoing chairman got 239.

In his acknowledgment speech, James Kiiza thanked the outgoing chairman and promised to uplift the status of the club.


“I thank my predecessor for a job well done and making sure URA is a winning team and I promise with the support of the board will make sure we attain our desired goals as a club,” said Kiiza .

According to the club constitution article 12(g), the club chairman must be an employee of the authority and that is why Mr.Kiiza was appointed until the general assembly later in the year where elections will be conducted.

“Article 12(g) of the URA FC amended constitution require offices of the URA Football club chairman, treasurer, secretary to be filled by URA staff,”

In a similar development, the club has created two vice chairman positions with Ali Ssekatawa retained on the board as vice chairman 1 while Moses Kibumba is vice chairman 2. But all board approvals await the annual general meeting ratification.
