Former Kampala Mayor Hajji Nasser Ntege Ssebaggala, better known as Seya, has confided to Chimpreports his roadmap to the 2016 general elections.
Ssebaggala says his newly founded Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) will actively partake in the forthcoming general elections, albeit not at a presidential level.
In a brief chat with our reporter over the weekend, Seya said even though his party is allies with the ruling NRM, he would give them trouble during the polls.
“At this moment, we are not envisaging presidency. We are looking at securing a good position in parliament. As of now, the LDP is targeting 50 MPs in the House in 2016,” he revealed.
“It’s of no use chasing to become president when you don’t have MPs. Parliament is what makes the foundation of any government. We don’t want to be like (Mayor Erias) Lukwago who was up there as mayor, without roots. He fell really badly.”
On whom he or his party would support amongst the 2016 presidential contenders, Seya said he was still undecided.
“It could even be Mbabazi; really I don’t know what the policies and issues of the contestants will look like. Whoever comes with a better manifesto, that’s who we will support.”
The former mayor however advised the ruling party to devise lasting solutions to their enduring internal feuds, noting that while these were internal, they in a way affected the county as a whole.
Ssebaggala narrowly missed out on a cabinet post a couple of years ago, after being blocked by parliament as inapt for Minister without portfolio.
