SPLA Soldier Arrested with Loaded Pistol at Elegu Border Point

Police at the Elegu border point have arrested a South Sudanese soldier identified as Pte John Akot Deng who is attached to Tigger Battalion of the South Sudanese Army, SPLA.

In this case number CRB 014/2020, the suspect faces charges of illegal possession of firearms.

The suspect, who claims to speak only Arabic was found in possession of a 5-star Pistol loaded with three rounds.

Police spokesman for Aswa region, Jimmy Patrick Okema says the suspect was arrested at the one stop border point security check.

Mr. Okema added that the suspect crossed into Uganda illegally allegedly to aid the crossing of his brother into South Sudan from Uganda, after the brother had called him for help

The Suspect is currently in Police Custody pending inquiries.

Meanwhile, a decomposed body was retrieved on Monday from the bank of River Aswa at the border between Pader-Lamwo district

The body according to Okema, is suspected to be of a Kenyan National, identified as Wafula Joseph who drowned on 25th. 11. 2019.


The Body was taken to Gulu regional referral Hospital Mortuary for Post-mortem and  DNA, the relatives of the deceased have already been informed.
