Speeding Truck Knocks Dead Boda Boda Cyclist Along Entebbe Road

An unidentified man was knocked dead in a road accident along Entebbe Road on Wednesday after a lorry‘s brakes malfunctioned.

According to Kampala Metropolitan police, the speeding Sino brand truck registration number UAY 988G, red in colour, knocked two motorcycles in what appears the nastiest accident in recent weeks.

One of the riders identified as Tony Kiyenge, 43, a resident of Seguku in Wakiso District, died instantly while the other survived with minor injuries.

The incident happened at Katale, Lweza, Entebbe Highway at about 12:45pm.

Police said the deceased was riding motorcycle registration number UEL 809T Bajaj Boxer, red in colour, when the truck rammed into them. 

The surviving rider of motorcycle registration number UEG 524G, was identified as Denis Nabongo, a resident of Ndejje in Wakiso.

KMP Spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango said investigations were underway to establish the cause of the accident.

He said preliminary information points to reckless driving on the part of the driver. 

The driver of the ill-fated truck is still at large.

The body was taken to city mortuary Mulago for postmortem.
