The legislator has given her seal of approval to the controversial pageant which was earlier this month announced by the Tourism Minister Hon. Godfrey Kiwanda.
This is after the organizer of the pageant Anne Mungoma, flanked by the contestants paid a visit to Parliament on Wednesday 27, and clarified that, the pageant does not promote sex tourism nor objectify women but, rather celebrates them.
Mungoma explained that, “just like pageants held for slim women, the ‘Miss Curvy’ aims at appreciating the beauty of curvy girls as well.”
Hon. Rebecca Kadaga pledged to support them; saying that she had initially condemned it, thinking it was aimed at promoting sex tourism.
The ‘Curvy’ Women pageant, a private sector led initiative, aimed at appreciating beauty queens with the Natural plus size, has faced a lot of criticism ever since its launch earlier in February this year, with many saying its meant to promote sex tourism and many other evils.
Set for April 26, 2019 at Hotel Africana, the contest has registered over 140 women competitors in a very short run.
