The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has extolled the departed Mukwano Group of Industries founder, Amirali Karmali as a prominent businessman.
Kadaga in a statement on Friday evening said she was equally shocked by the demise of the business mogul which occurred on Wednesday evening in Fort Portal town, Western Uganda.
“I learnt with shock and sorrow the news of the death of Mr. Amirali Karmali. I have since known him as renowned business man who has greatly contributed to the development of this country in all areas,” said Kadaga.
The late was among the first investors to set up manufacturing industries in Uganda.
The Speaker noted that the death of Mukwano, as he was fondly known for his friendship with the locals, is a big loss to the nation.
“The Country has lost a great entrepreneur who executed acts of courage, acts of love for this country and left an indelible mark in the hearts of many Ugandans,” she added.
She commended the family for supporting the late and encouraged them to remain strong.
“To the family, I appreciate the tremendous support you have given to him. Equally, we pray that God the Almighty protects you through this moment of grief and sorrow. I grieve with the family members and friends,” she said.
The body of Amirali was on Saturday morning taken to Kololo Independence Grounds for public viewing and is expected to be laid to rest at a cemetery in Kololo.
