South Sudan 1-0 Uganda: Okello Penalty Inspires Sudan Victory

2021 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers

  • South Sudan 1-0 Uganda Cranes
  • Malawi 0-0 Burkina Faso

Tito Okello’s converted penalty was all that South Sudan needed to stun Uganda Cranes (1-0) in the 2021 African Nations Cup qualifiers return leg duel played at Nyayo stadium in Nairobi – Kenya on Monday.

Okello’s penalty came after 35 minutes resulting from defender Halid Lwaliwa’s foul in the area, before the former Vipers player slotted home past cranes goalkeeper Dennis Onyango.

The Uganda Cranes had been reduced to 10 men three minutes before the spot kick, after midfielder Aucho Khalid got matching orders after a malicious tackle.

South Sudan were also reduced to a man down in the second stanza when substitute Musa Abdallah was red carded for a foul on striker Emmanuel Arnold Okwi.

The win takes South Sudan to three points on the bottom of group B while Uganda Cranes remain second place on Seven.

Elsewhere, Burkina Faso and Malawi played to a goalless draw in another qualification match taking the former to eight points on top, four ahead of the latter.
