The Rt Rev Nason Baluku was on Sunday December 13, 2020, consecrated and enthroned as the third Bishop of the Diocese of South Rwenzori in a service held at St Paul’s Cathedral, Kasese.
Bishop Baluku succeeded Bishop Jackson Nzerebende who had served as Diocesan Bishop since 2003 and also as Dean of the Province of Uganda.
Baluku was elected the new Bishop of South Rwenzori on August 11, 2020 by the House of Bishops of Church of Uganda sitting at Namirembe Guest House.
He was enthroned by the Archbishop of Church of Uganda, the Most Rev Dr Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu.
Who is Rev Nason Baluku?
Bishop Baluku was born on March 15, 1967 in Muhango sub county on the slopes of the Rwenzori mountains in Kasese district.
He holds a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership and Management and Bachelor of Community Leadership and Development, both from Uganda Christian University (UCU).
He received a diploma in Theology from UCU and a Provincial Certificate in Theological Studies from Bishop Balya Theological College.
He was born again at the age of 12 on October 13, 1979 and was confirmed three years later in 1982 .
By the time he was 17 years, he was commissioned as a Catechist and later a Lay Reader.
On August 6, 1995, he was ordained a deacon and made a priest on July 28, 1996.
He was appointed a Canon of St Paul’s Cathedral on December 4, 2005.
Bishop Baluku has served in a variety of Ministry positions, including a Vicar of several parishes, an Archdeacon, Diocesan Secretary, Program Director of Bishop Masereka Foundation and PDR coordinator in the Provincial Secretariat.
Until his consecration, he was serving as a project manager of the International Organization Barnabas Fund.
He is married to Jane Biira Baluku and together they have 7 children.
