South Africa Designates Lulama Mary Theresa as New High Commissioner to Uganda

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Oryem Henry Okello, has received copies of letters accrediting Lulama Mary Theresa Xingwana as the new South African High Commissioner to Uganda.

Oryem hailed the good relations existing between Uganda and South Africa, and is confident that the High Commissioner’s appointment will further strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries, especially in the areas of trade and tourism.

The High Commissioner -designate expressed gratitude for the warm reception accorded to her since her arrival in Uganda.

She promised to foster close economic relations between her South Africa and Uganda during her tour of duty.

Lulama, 65, served as South Africa’s Minister for Women, Children and People with Disabilities from November 2010 – May 2014. Previously, she held the position of Deputy Minister of Minerals and Energy from 2004 to 2006 and was Minister of Agriculture and Land Affairs from 2006 to 2009

Lulama became a Member of Parliament after the 1994 South African elections. She is currently also chairperson of the Southern African Development Community Regional Women’s Caucus and director of the South African Council of Churches Women’s Development Programmes (1987).
