City socialite Sulaiman Kabangala commonly known as SK Mbuga has reportedly been released from prison in Sweden.
The tycoon who was extradited to the Scandinavian country to answer to charges of fraud in February this year was acquitted by a court in Sweden on Tuesday 17 on grounds that prosecution had failed to present enough evidence to pin him.
The case had initially been set for hearing later this month (September 27) but the Prosecutor reportedly lost interest in the case after reviewing the previous proceedings.
SK Mbuga was arrested by International Police (Interpol) in February 2018 in Dubai in connection to 53m Kronor (about Shs23 billion) that his wife Angella Vivian Birungi allegedly fleeced from a joint account she owned with her former boyfriend Sten Heinsoo in Sweden.
He was jailed in Al Awiir Central Prison in Dubai for one year before the authorities in the United Arab Emirates handed him over to Swedish authorities who insisted he had a case to answer.
Meanwhile his wife Angela Vivian Birungi was also arrested and detained earlier this year in February by Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) with Swedish lawyers expected in the country to demand for her extradition to Sweden.
