Susan Kwezi, a nutritionist, notes that we are what we eat, therefore how your skin looks is a result of the food you consume.

The glow, however, can also be achieved by using some of the usual organic plants or fruit whose extract can be directly applied onto the skin.

Here are simple home ingredients to help you achieve your dream skin. These can be eaten or applied directly to the skin.

Aloe Vera

Annet Kyakyo, a beautician at Mary’s sparkles Salon down town, notes that Aloe Vera gel will leave your face spotless and very smooth.

It contains antioxidants, Vitamins A and C, and it is highly anti-inflammatory. Apply the gel twice a day. It removes pimples, spots and keeps the skin moisturized.

Applying both processed and freshly extracted aloe vera gel requires concentration as it can cause irritation once it drips into one’s mouth or eyes.

Lemon

Lemon is a natural bleaching agent.  It clears away dark spots and leaves the skin with an even tone. Squeeze the juice out and apply it on your skin for 5 to 10 minutes in the morning and evening.

Regular application is not recommended; only twice a week is enough because the citric acid in lemons can make your skin more sensitive to UV rays if over used.

Pawpaw

Paw paws have anti-aging properties that prevent the skin from pre-mature wrinkling.

Kwezi notes that most people don’t eat paw paws, depriving their skin of a healthy glow. Paw paws have anti-aging properties that keep the skin looking young and fresh. They also aid the exfoliation process, keeping the skin from getting rough.

Cucumber

Cucumbers are rich in anti pigmentation properties.

Kyakyo adds that a cucumber is what everyone needs for a good shine on their skin. Cucumbers help in removing dark circles beneath the eyes due to their richness in anti pigmentation properties.

Honey

A honey mask once or twice a week enhances the skins elasticity and soothes irritated skin. It can be quite uncomfortable at night but the end result is rewarding.

Olive Oil

Olive oil has anti inflammatory natural ingredients that will sooth a dry, irritated skin and restore the glowing shine.

Green Tea

Green tea detoxifies the body, contributing to a healthy skin.

Kwezi says green tea has so many health benefits, among which is regulating the acidity of the skin leaving it cleansed and rejuvenated.

Orange Juice

Just like lemon, oranges will clear the dark spots on your face. Orange juice also detoxifies the body, an essential element for a healthy skin.

Orange peelings extraction can also be smeared directly on the skin to clear blemishes.
