Angella Chebet Vivienne, the wife of socialite SK Mbuga, could soon be extradited to Sweden to face charges of fraud if the government of Sweden wins an extradition request to Uganda.
Chebet was arrested last Thursday after it emerged that $6m (about Shs23b) belonging to Stein Heinsoo, a Swedish national, had allegedly been wired to her account.
The spokesman of the Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID), Mr Vincent Ssekatte, said Sweden officials are expected in the country soon to meet the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) so as to have Ms Vivienne extradited to Sweden since she committed the crime in same country where she is also a citizen.
“The lawyers from the law firm which raised a complaint have sought audience with His Lordship Mike Chibita the DPP, who met them together with investigating team and the DPP, assigned Senior State Attorney Barbara Masinde to work with the investigating team,” Mr Ssekatte said in an interview.
He said Ms Vivienne had earlier been charged in Sweden court and a travel ban was issued against her but she used unscrupulous ways to comeback into Uganda.
“We have however been informed that a red notice was issued by Interpol to have Vivienne arrested but I am yet to confirm whether it was truly issued. But if that is true, then that can be used to extradite her back to Sweden because she is also a citizen of Sweden,” he added.
Her husband, SK Mbuga, was last week released by the United Arab Emirates and extradited to Denmark.
