SK Mbuga’s Wife Denied Bail

The Anti-corruption court sitting at Kololo has declined to release on bail Angella Chebet, wife to Mr Sulaiman Kabangala aka SK Mbuga who is facing fraud charges.

The trial judge Margret Tibulya ruled that she couldn’t possibly release somebody who has a bad record of jumping bail, giving an example of the bail she jumped in Sweden where she had been indicted on similar charges.

Earlier on while objecting to the bail application, state attorney Innocent Alito revealed to court that Chebet is wanted by authorities in Sweden and that the international police issued a red notice after she fled in 2017 upon being granted bail.

Meanwhile, the state prosecutor Harriet Angom asked court to further remand Chebet to give her enough time to finalize with investigations into the case and this prompted the judge to remand her until the 27th March 2019.

It is alleged that on 7th April 2015 in Kampala with intent to defraud, Chebet obtained USD152,810,000 from one Heinsoo Sten a Swedish National by falsely pretending to facilitate a gold deal transaction whereas not.

The State contends that in the same year, Chebet obtained USD 167, 595,200 from the said Sten pretending to facilitate another gold deal.
