Six Soldiers Get 6 Months in Jail for Assaulting Civilians

Gulu’s 4th Division Court Martial has convicted and sentenced six UPDF officer to six months in jail for beating with sticks civilians in Amuru district, causing them grievous and bodily harm.

The convicts who are all from the 71st Battalions are Lt Corporal Awanyi Constantine, Private Ebong Max, Makanga Muhammad, Muteeke Robert and Ayebazibwe Erias.

These, upon being read the charges voluntarily pleaded guilty.

It’s alleged that the six on 2nd April 2020 at 8pm, while in Lorikwo West zone in Elegu town council in Amuru district, beat with sticks one Ceka Zubeda, Anyamo Rose, Yutong Fatuma and Adiga Ratib, causing them various bodily injuries.

In his recent address to the nation, President Museveni warned all security personnel against torturing citizens under the disguise of implementing his directives on prevention of COVID 19 pandemic.
