Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has cleared six more companies to start producing non medical face masks.
This has brought the number of companies in the production of non medical masks in the country to a sum of twenty nine (29).
According to the official statement from UNBS released on Thursday , this has been done in line with the organization’s mandate of protect Ugandans from using substandard face masks which could be harmful to their health.
The newly certified manufacturers include Sumaco Enterprises Limited, Sigma Knitting Industries Limited, Uganda Industrial Research Institute and Fresh Fashion collections.
The recently cleared manufacturers include; MMacks Investment Limited, Funding Building Construction Limited, EX Ken Uganda Limited, The Key Murungi Fashions, Najjeru Packaging Industries Limited, Youth Save, The Nature Uganda Limited, Christex Garment Limited , Jayne Collection and events , Prince Orient Uganda Limited, Tenge Collection among others.
UNBS promised that in the due process, the number of certified companies is expected to increase since many have already applied and are undergoing scrutiny.
Most of these companies decided to engage in production of non medical face mask following the Government’s directive that all Ugandans must put on face masks while in public as a measure for mitigating the spread of COVID-19.
