Ugandan singer, songwriter and Saxophonist Maureen Rutabingwa alias MoRoots has just released the highly anticipated first single off her upcoming debut album ‘From the Sun.’
The truck titled ‘Moonlight,’ is a ballad she describes as a perfect mash up of her classical music, upbringing her thirst and lust for dirty funky rhythm.
The songstress is optimistic that the fans, after listening to the song, will feel and probably imitate the sweetness, innocence and rapture of love in it, especially as Valentine’s Day draws near.
Written by MoRoots and produced by Roy Kasika commonly known as ‘the drum machine,’ ‘Moonlight’ has already received massive airplay on some of Kampala’s top radio stations.
In the song, MoRoots samples the intro of Charles Debussy’s (1905) version of “Clair De Lune” truck whilst, maintaining a distinct electric neo-funk sound that has become her characteristic.
The singer, who has worked with Soul Deep and Qwela band, is known for hits like Muluyimba, take it all back and Omuka among others. She has always been the fan’s favorite, serving as both an inspiration and role model.
MoRoots is planning to spread her music not only in Uganda but globally as well.
