Uganda National Men’s senior Basketball team (Silverbacks) have improved by three slots according to the latest rankings released by the Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA).
The World rankings released on Wednesday Indicate that the Silverbacks ascended from the 100th to the 97th position with a 96.7 point accumulation.
Uganda’s improved ranking could be attributed to the sublime performance in the just concluded first window of the FIBA AfroBasket qualifiers in Alexandria, Egypt where they accumulated 5 points from three games in group W.
The Silverbacks lost their opening match to hosts Egypt (77-96) but overcame hardships from Cape Verde and Morocco by 108-98 and 94-90 respectively.
USA maintains a firm grip on top spot ahead of second placed Spain. Russia are the only newcomers to the top 10 after climbing two spots to No. 9 and switching places with Czech Republic that dropped to the 11th place.
The Silverbacks will have a two week break before resuming with non residential training on December 15th 2020 in preparation for the second qualifying window.
The second window for the FIBA AfroBasket qualifiers is scheduled for 19th to 21st February 2020 in Kigali, Rwanda at a venue yet to be confirmed.
