Silverbacks Flagged Off for 2021 FIBA Afrobasket Qualifiers

Uganda National men’s basketball team, the Silverbacks were on Friday flagged off ahead of the 2021 FIBA Afrobasket Qualifiers scheduled to take place in Egypt.

The flag off took place at the Copper Chimney Restaurant in Lugogo which was graced by the National Council of Sports Chairman Dr Donald Rukare and General Secretary Dr Bernard Patrick Ogwel.

The Silverbacks will today depart for Egypt for the Qualifiers in Alexandria scheduled for 27th – 27th November 2020.

Uganda was placed in group G alongside hosts Egypt, Morocco, and Cape Verde which recently attained a ticket from an Invitational tournament in Cameroon.

Seven locally based players who have been undergoing intense training in the past weeks, will be joined by their five foreign-based teammates for a training camp before the Tournament.

The team will be under Coach George Galanopolous who will be assisted by Mandy Juruni together with Mike Schmitz and Andrew Tendo
