Sheema Councillor Caught in Cow Theft, Vehicle Torched by Residents

Angry residents of Mabaare cell, Kyagaaju ward in Sheema Municipality on Tuesday night burnt a car belonging a local district councillor, one Ham Kanyongororwa for alleged involvement in livestock theft.

Vehicle number UAP 390A premio which belongs to the district councillor for Kashozi division was reportedly found in a swamp with 3 unidentified men who were trying to load a stolen cow in it.

David Ruhindi the owner of the stolen cow said this was one of 14 cows that were stolen from him since last month.

Councilor Kanyongororwa whose car was burnt

On Tuesday when he went out in the night to check on the animals, he said he found one missing.

“We got our pangas and spears and started searching for it. We then spotted a car moving slowly and we followed it up to the swamp where it stopped. When the people who were in the car saw us, they torched us heavily and started intimidating us, but we showed them that we were armed and they disappeared. After reaching at the car, we found the cow tied besides the vehicle on the tree.” he said.

Sheema DPC Scovia Birungi said they have already arrested Councillor Kanyongororwa to help with in investigations.

ChimpReports talked to Kanyongororwa before being detained and he told us that he knew nothing about the theft.

He claimed he was also looking for his car which disappeared on the same night.
