The FUFA Women Elite League 2018/19 season kicked off last week with six games with thrilling action across the different grounds.

Majority of the the title favorites opened up their campaign on an impressive note and will be seeking to maintain a perfect run as the league enters match day two.

UCU Lady Cardinals who were looked at as title contenders last season chocked failing to make the playoffs. However, the University side will hope a good start can spur them to their target of winning the league this season.

Despite struggling in their opener against bogey side Isra Soccer Academy, UCU Lady Cardinals managed to nick a 1-0 win courtesy of Hasifa Nassuna and the lethal forwards hopes this can be a good starting point.

” First games in the season are always difficult but it was important that we got three points and I believe this gives us confidence going into the game against Kampala Queens.” She said.

UCU Lady Cardinals will host Kampala Queens under the stewardship of Farida Bulega who is also the Crested Cranes head coach.

Kampala Queens a team owned by FUFA President Moses Magogo will be playing their first game this season. Last season the two teams faced off in the league and Kampala Queens won the game played in Mukono 1-0(Damalie Matama’s penalty).

The other team that looks revamped is She Corporate after signing several players. The Nakawa based side began their season with a 1-0 win against Asubo Gafford Ladies FC.

Head coach Ali Zzinda is confident his charges will go into the game against newly promoted Dynamic Jjeza FC high on confidence and hopes for maximum points.

” We shall not look down on our opponents because they are new in the league but we shall try to build from the win we got in the first game to make sure we get another win tomorrow. ” He stated.

Ajax Queens FC who lead Victoria group after their 3-0 win against Rines WFC make the trip to Wankulukuku to face Muteesa I Royal University who also won their opener 3-1 against Dynamic Jjeza.

This fixture was last season’s opening game and Ajax Queens won it 1-0 with defender Bridget Nabisaalu scpring.

The other game to be played on Saturday will see last season’s runners up, Olila High School from Soroti district host She Makerere.

Olila will be playing their first game this season whilst She Makerere won 1-0 against new comers Lango Queens 1-0.
