Police are investigating circumstances under which a High Court Judge was involved in a nasty road accident on Easter Sunday, Chimp Corps report.
The car in which Justice Vincent Okwanga of High Court Criminal Division, Kampala, was traveling in swerved off the road and overturned.
Judiciary spokesperson Solomon Muyita confirmed the incident, saying Okwanga was “involved in an accident in Lira, at about 3:30pm.”
He further said the judiciary “awaits a police confirmation of the cause of the accident.”
Quoting a doctor in Lira, Muyita said “the conditions of both the judge and his bodyguard are stable.”
The duo received First Aid at Down Town Clinic in Lira Town.
Muyita said the judge and bodyguard “apparently sustained minor injuries and they are likely to be discharged this evening.”
The judge was driving his official vehicle Mitsubishi Pajero Registration number UG 0542 J when the accident occurred.
“He Okwonga has an official driver, but I cannot confirm at the moment why the judge was not with his driver,” said Muyita.
He also said the Judiciary has arranged an ambulance from Lira Hospital to transfer the judge and bodyguard to Kampala should their condition warrant so.
