Selector Jay, a renowned DJ in Uganda’s entertainment circles, made his mark on Wednesday night after scooping most nominations in three of the five awards categories for the UG Mix Maestro DJ awards.
The awards slated for October 6th, 2017 will recognize and honor exceptional/outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry.
Selector Jay scooped nominations under the categories of TV DJ of the Year, Radio DJ of the Year and Nightlife DJ of the Year, more than all over disc spinners in Uganda.
The announcement was made at a nomination party hosted by Uganda Waragi at Fame Lounge in Kampala.
There are other prominent nominations in which DJs Beats, Shiru, Mark, Nimrod, Slick Stuart and Roja were each nominated in more than one category.
However, the nomination was another opportunity for party lovers to do what they love best; the icing on the cake being mixing and mingling with their favorite celebrity deejays.
The nominated turntable masters and mistresses were selected under various categories including TV DJ of the Year, Radio DJ of the Year, Events DJ of the Year, Nightlife DJ of the Year and Gospel DJ of the Year. The winners of the Best Male and Best Female Battle DJ will each scoop a brand new professional DJ set worth over UGX40m.
The final awards will be adjudicated by three judges, who are also professional deejays– DJ Rox, DJ MaryJo and DJ Ciza.
The UG Mix Maestro campaign seeks to recognize and celebrate the unique talent that deejays have to offer.
The countrywide campaign features a number of activities like bar activations, in-store special promotional offers, house parties and regional tours that include deejay battles to crown the Best Female/Male Battle DJ.
It is organized in collaboration with the DJ Association of Uganda (DJAU), an umbrella body formed in 2014 that brings together all DJs/VJs in Uganda.
The same event saw selected nominated deejays receive certificates of nomination from Charles Lwanga, CEO DJ Association of Uganda.
“We are very excited to have fresh talent in the industry and glad that this campaign will be recognizing and rewarding innovation, originality and professionalism,” Lwanga said at the handover ceremony.
He urged fans and followers to actively participate in the competition by voting their favorite deejays this month.
