Security personals led by UPDF on Monday recued about 54 herds of Cattle that were stolen by Karimojong Cattle rustlers
The suspected Karimojong who were 10 in number came and attacked residents of Paimol Sub-county in Agago district and raided the cattle.
In response, the UPDF’s 5th division infantry and Local vigilantes pursued the cattle rustlers, which led to exchange of fire between the two sides.
The rustlers later fled, leaving all the stolen cattle behind before they were returned to their oweners.
Agago Resident District Commissioner Linos Ngompek in an interview confirmed this report saying that the rustlers have become a big problem to people in Agago district.
Mr. Ngompek says since the year begun, they have had about 30 attacks from suspected Karimojong cattle rustlers adding that in this period, they have put 6 rustlers out of action and recovered 1 rifle.
The Agago RDC also revealed that over 300 people in Omia-Pachwa who had taken refuge at a health Center for fear of the Karimojong attacks have safely returned home after they were assured of their safety and security.
Commenting on the Matter on Tuesday, State Minister for ICT, and National guidance, Hon. Peter Ogwang said that security officials should make sure that all these criminals terrorizing residents of Agago are stopped and apprehended.
