The Corporate League has continued to grow in stature over the years and made a mark by bringing several corporate companies together under the theme, ‘ Inspiring corporates through sports
After a successful event at the start of this month which was the opener of the 2019 Calendar, the games are expected to continue with the second outing scheduled for 3rd March 2019 at Mandela National stadium.
According to Ian Rumanyika, the chairman of Corporate Games Uganda, the objective behind this project is to foster team work, create an interaction environment across several companies or organizations through sports.
” We aim at bringing together corporate staff from various companies on a monthly basis to engage in various sporting activities and creating an environment where individuals from different companies/organizations go to interact on a personal and team basis as well as networking in terms of businesses and at the end of the season an annual awards dinner is held.” He said.
“This also acts as an external team building program for the member companies and will improve on the physical fitness of many employees who are tied up possibly for long hours behind their desks in the corporate world, ” added Rumanyika.
He further states that the main aim is to bring together corporate companies from various sectors such as Telecommunication, Agriculture, Insurance, Banking, Construction, Beverage, Audit and Accounting, Legislators, Education, MDAs, Trade and Industry, Media to mention but a few.
With more companies coming on board this year, the competition is expected to be tight across the different games.
The 2019 season has over 30 companies participating in various games such as Football in 10 outings, Athletics, Netball, Volleyball, and Basketball in 6 outings, Cycling, Corporate runs, Swimming, Tag of war, Pool, Wood ball and a number of fun games every first Sunday of the month up to December.
Rumanyika states that registration of companies is still open to only 6 institutions for the next outing. He further stresses that licensed players or mercenaries are not allowed to feature.
