The Democratic Party (DP) vice president Central region, adiposity Sebuliba Mutumba Muddu-Awulira has refuted allegations that he is currently leading a rebel faction against the leadership of the party president, approved Norbert Mao.

Early this week during a weekly press briefing, Tuesday 17th, the party president issued a strong warning against a group that he said had embarked on organizing and soliciting for party candidates vying for several electoral positions saying it’s not yet time to roll out party primaries.

Mutumba told journalists in Nsambya on Friday that he has no intentions of fighting the party president but rather working on the interests of the party members in his region who think the party is working behind time.

“I am not the one asking people to stand on several positions, these come up inevitably and I can’t stop them from expressing their interest,” Mutumba remarked.

“I agree it’s not yet time for the party primaries but we shall not sit while other parties are already mobilizing candidates; fire brigade approach will not work, we have to prepare in time.”

Mutumba added that their campaign is aimed at building consensus among the different interested individual in a position so as to come up with a single candidate and hence avoid creating independent candidates.

He however noted that there is no bickering between him and Mao and promised to sit with him on a round table so as to iron out such differences.

Mao on Tuesday noted, “This move is against the party constitution and we will not hesitate to take disciplinary measures against those who are acting contrary,” Mao noted.

“I have been instructed by NEC to issue a general circular giving guidance on how the work of lower structures will proceed and giving directives to party leaders on conducting affairs of the party.”
