Scores Lose Jobs as Kabale University Restructures

The recent validation exercise conducted at Kabale University has seen scores of workers dropped and others demoted; such as University Secretary and the Director of finance.

Kennedy Rwaboona, erectile university secretary has been demoted to the Deputy Dean of Students and replaced with Naris Tibenderana, pharmacy while William Kururagire the Director of Finance to an assistant lecturer and replaced with Robert Kabagambe.

Another official Ndikundizana was dropped and compelled to resign as he has another job at Kashaki secondary school where he is a teacher.

Meanwhile there were complaints that some of the staffers hat were retained have not been given contracts or appointment letters.

Prof. Ezra Mishambi Twesigomwe, the Kabale University deputy vice chancellor in charge of academic affairs while speaking to our reporter on Thursday confirmed that many lecturers and support staff members have either been demoted or dropped after the restructuring exercise that followed the acquisition of the university by government.

In the ongoing restructuring, the VC clarified that most of the fired lecturers are those whose courses were scrapped and those that were not qualified.

Kabale University was established as a not-for-profit community institution in 2002 by stakeholders in the Kigezi sub-region with 42 students.

In 2005 the   Uganda National Council for Higher Education accredited it as an institution of higher learning In January 2015, after lobbying from stakeholders the government of Uganda to take it over in June 2015, the government formally took over the university this year.


Presently, Kabale students come from all parts of Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC Congo, and Sudan.
