Uganda Premier League record Champions Sports Club Villa have confirmed the signing of lanky goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige.
Kibirige joins the 16-time league winners from Tooro United after facing relegation to the FUFA Big League following the abrupt end of the 2019/2020 season.
He becomes the first official signing made by the club in the ongoing off-season transfer window.
“I am so glad to have joined SC Villa. Joining Villa has been an easy decision for me, this is the move I have been waiting for because Villa is the biggest club in Uganda and I hope to win more trophies with this club,” an excited Kibirige said.
He is expected to fill the void left by goalkeeper Samson Kirya who is reportedly in advanced talks with Wakiso Giants.
At SC Villa, Kibirige will vie for the starting slot in goal with Keni Saidi who recently extended his stay at the club for two more years.
Villa has, however, lost key players in Bashir Mutanda, Charles Lwanga, Ibrahim Muguluusi, Ambrose Kirya and Ibrahim Kibumba.
The club is also expected to unveil midfielder Goffin Godfrey Oyirwoth and left back Duncan Senninde who are also said to have reached an agreement with the Jogoos.
