SC Villa Confirm Basena Departure, Appoints Coach Bamweyana

It is no longer an open secret that Villa has parted ways with coach Moses Basena, the club has confirmed.

The developments have been in the media for almost a week since the club’s 2-2 draw with Tooro United in Buhinga Stadium recently.

After the said game in Tooro, it was reported that Coach Basena threw in a towel, however, the club refuted claims when contacted recently.

The club has now finally confirmed Basena’s departure.

“The interim committee would like to inform the football fraternity that in view of the poor results the club has been posting in the recent past, the club and the head coach (Mr Moses Basena) have agreed to terminate the latter’s contract by mutual consent,” reads a document from SC Villa, receieved by this website.

The document dated November 27, signed by Joseph Kizito, Secretary communication, continues: “The club appreciates Mr. Basena’s efforts in putting the club back on its feet.”

Moses Basena leaves the club third from the bottom with four points from eight league games.

Villa has now appointed Douglas Bamweyana to replace Coach Basena.


“The committee has the pleasure to announce the appointment of Mr. Douglas Bamweyana as the new head coach and he takes responsibility with immediate effect.”

Bamweyana’s recent stint was at Express FC where he joined the club last year to replace Mathias Lule.

At Express FC, he saw the club through nine games – Lost five, won and drew twice apiece before he was fired.

In yet to be confirmed developments, it is also rumoured that Sam Timbe joins the team as the new Technical Director.

Timbe is joins the record 16 time league winners with vastly experience after stints with Atraco (Rwanda) and Young Africans (Tanzania).

Bamweyana will be deputised by Simon Peter Mugerwa – the Buddo SS Coach. This was however, not revealed in an official statement from the club.

Villa’s next action will be a league game against Nyamityobora on Match day nine in Wankulukuku.
