South Sudan President, Salva Kiir was on Tuesday awarded the Peace Medal for the year 2020 by the Gulf Nations sponsored Global Peace without Borders Organization, for his role in bringing peace to South Sudan and Sudan.
Dr. Muhammad el-Arab from Peace without Borders Organization said the Awards Committee zeroed on Kiir due to his efforts to bring Peace and stability in his country.
South Sudan is however still far from stable amid continued clashes and hundreds of thousands still displaced.
A statement released by the office of the president said that Salva Kiir has “continued to negotiate peace and reconciliation” in the region.
“Global Peace without Borders Organization commended H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit for the vital role that he has continued to play to negotiate peace and reconciliation for the Countries in the region,” said part of the statement.
Global Peace Without Borders Organization is based in Manchester, Britain, and is said to be active in 36 Countries that aims to consolidate global peace efforts
Its awardee was the President of the State of Djibouti due to his contribution to the peace process Yemen, Somalia, Eritrea and Ethiopia.
