Salim Jamal Unavailable for Cranes, Comoros Tie

Former FDC President Dr Kizza Besigye has urged party delegates to trust him with the onus of carrying their flag bearer in the forthcoming presidential elections.

Besigye was speaking during the party delegates conference at Namboole on Wednesday afternoon where and noted that he is sure of seizing power.

“My campaign is to be short and focused because we are here to elect a person who will win the 2016 election. Unfortunately a lot of challenges   I have seen especially from my colleague could have been like we are campaigning for party president but that is not the case, illness what is ed ” Besigye told delegates.

”We are going into an election but some of our colleagues think it’s going to be free and fair which is  not the case as has been the previous times. We are competing against a military dictatorship and I can assure you I am the only one who can overpower this regime, ailment ” said Besigye.

He challenged his rival Gen Mugisha Muntu to appreciate he has won almost all the previous elections he has been involved in with President Museveni which he said shows trust that the people have in him .

“I heard Gen Muntu saying the support I got in 2001 was accrued from that of DP leader Paul Kawanga Semwogerere but he should know in that election I was battling with Francis Bwengye who was a DP member. It should be known that supporters are never inherited but are people who have trust in someone.”

The former FDC President added: “This was shown by the kind of enthusiasm during my campaigns where some people even gave me money. For the first time I saw poor Ugandans give me money so that I go and do their work. That’s a demonstration of their trust in my candidature.”

Besigye has unsuccessfully contested thrice against President Museveni.

He, however, assured that he was always rigged out of the race.

“In 2001 I was no body’s candidate as I competed as an individual with no one behind me but in the following elections I have been competing as an FDC candidate. When a candidate loses, the party loses and the failure is put on us all as party members,” Besigye noted.

The FDC strongman said he wants to make history by winning the forthcoming elections and President Museveni also become the first leader to hand over power  peacefully but noted that this cannot come on a silver plate but rather through electoral reforms.

“The duty is on us to see that reforms are put in place before the forthcoming elections. Some members are saying I am calling for a boycott but that’s not the case, I am fighting for elections after reforms. I have to ensure we have free and fair elections,”

Besigye campaign team manager Hon. Geoffrey Ekanya described the former FDC leader as the only single Ugandan who has suffered while fighting against injustices in the country, adding that he is a tested leader.

“He is one single Ugandan who has fed the greatest amount of teargas and this shows the regime is panicking and fear him,” Ekanya noted.

Over 1,000 delegates from various parts of the country are voting in the elections at Namboole.
