Omusinga of Rwenzururu Kingdom Charles Wesley Mumbere has appointed Hon Joseph Kule Muranga the new Prime Minster after almost three years of kingdom matters being ran by a Prime Ministerial Commission (PMC).
According to the letter dated August 10 in which Muranga was awarded a 5 year renewable contract, this appointment takes immediate effect.
“By the powers entrusted to me by the constitution of Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu, I hereby officially appoint you as Prime Minister (Omulembera) for a renewable term of 5 years,” the letter reads in part.
Among the roles for the Prime Minister is to manage and promote the relationship between Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu and the Central Government.
“You have a duty to abide by the constitution of Banya Rwenzururu and norms of Bayira people. You are also tasked to spearhead the development of Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu,” the letter further reads.
Omusinga has appreciated the roles played by the outgoing Prime Ministerial Commission (PMC) for having steered the Kingdom diligently.
Mumbere has promised to appoint the cabinet and Deputy Prime Minister as soon as possible.
The Commission was put in place in 2016 to handle kingdom affairs after the November crisis which resulted into the imprisonment of Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere and his Prime Minister Johnson Thembo Kitsumbire.
Mumbere was arrested on November 30, 2016 and charged with terrorism, aggravated robbery and attempted murder and later granted bail with tough conditions limiting his movements to the Rwenzururu Region.
