On Thursday, the Minister of State for Labor Hon Mwesigwa Rukutana handed over the office of Deputy Attorney General to the new Minister Jackson Kafuuzi.
Kafuuzi was appointed Deputy Attorney General by President Museveni late last year replacing Rukutana.
Kafuuzi, who doubles as the Kyaka South Member of Parliament however, had his appointment as Deputy Attorney General delayed by Parliament’s Appointments Committee chaired by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.
The Committee delayed to cross check Kafuuzi’s experience as a lawyer, with the Judiciary.
As such, he had to be sworn in separately, weeks later on 12th February 2020 when he was sworn in as Deputy Attorney General by the President at State House Entebbe.
While handing over office to Kafuuzi, Rukutana applauded the team he worked with for professionalism, collegiality and friendship exhibited during his 5-year tenure as Deputy Attorney General.
He appealed to his former technocrats that such should continue during the tenure of Kafuuzi or any other officer who might come in.
Kafuuzi on his part, applauded President Museveni for the appointment and thanked Rukutana who he described as open and friendly colleague from their relationship as Members of Parliament and services he rendered as Deputy Attorney General.
He further emphasized the spirit of consultations which he said he would use to easily settle and serve the public.
The handover ceremony was presided over by new Minister of Justice and Constitution Affairs Prof Ephraim Kamuntu and attended by Ministry’s top leaders including Attorney General William Byaruhanga, Solicitor General, Administrator General, Directors, Commissioners and other members of senior management.
