Mr Rukutana has been in a spotlight over the last few days after pictures of him carrying an AK 47 assault rifle in his farm in the western district of Ntungamo widely circulated on social media last week.
However, Mr Rukutana said the picture was taken four years ago and that holding a gun is no big deal.
“I have lawfully possessed that gun since there was an attempt on my life during the CA (Constituent Assembly) campaigns (in 1994),” he said in an interview.
