Rukungiri: Security Guard Shot Dead

One of the contestants for the Kinkizi West Parliamentary seat James Rugimana Kaberuka was on Friday evening assaulted in the presence of the NRM Electoral Commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi, illness this during a meeting at the district headquarters.

Dr. Odoi had called the meeting of NRM leaders and contestants on various positions on orders of the party chairman President Yoweri Museveni, story to iron out differences created by disqualification of some candidates allegedly supporting Hon Amama Mbabazi’s Go Forward campaign.

Kaberuka was grabbed as he tried to greet supporters of his opponents and hit on the head before being wrestled down and mobbed by some youths he claims were hired by his opponents, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi [the incumbent] and RDC Harriet Nakamya.

He says while he was hit, the RDC and Dr. Baryomunsi stood and watched as the latter’s bodyguards prevented his supporters from chasing after his assaulters.

He later rushed and reported to police which escorted him to Kihiihi town to get treatment.

The RDC Nakamya, when contacted described the incident as regrettable and called for calm in the electoral process.

Dr. Baryomunsi however, refused to comment on the incident despite being reached both on phone and in person.

In the meeting, Kaberuka had accused the district NRM party registrar, the RDC and other political leaders for campaigning for the former woman MP Jackline Kyatuheire who is standing with him on the same seat.


Police in Rukungiri is hunting for thugs who shot dead a 24 year old private security guard.

Baluku Alex, purchase attached to Rukungiri Premier Security Company was on Monday morning found dead and his MAK-4 rifle taken.

He was guarding at Kyatoko water pump in Rukungiri Municipality.

In a related development, sildenafil a private security guard in Kabale district shot and killed a 32 year old man.

Alex Byaruhanga commonly known as Abas, a resident of Kalengyere trading center Muko Sub County was shot by Godfrey Wekesa of Swatt Private Company at the Rwabulindi Airtel booster.

Abas was amongst a gang of three who attack the guard trying to steal fuel from the booster, and in the scuffle, he was shot dead while the others escaped.
