A 64-year-old man in Rukungiri has died after drinking excessive Waragi, a locally made gin.
The deceased, Julius Twesigye was a resident Kamujegye cell, in Rwerere Town Council.
Police says Twesigye was assisting his friend Justus Mbuyani to carry alcohol from Ekyambu water stream where they were distilling waragi the whole day.
“When they returned to the home of Mbuyani at about 18:30hours, Mbuyani gave the deceased some more alcohol (waragi) to drink,” said regional police spokesman Elly Maate.
“Later at about 20:30 hours he left Mbuyani’s home and went to his home where he never reached. His body was found the next day lying in eucalyptus trees by Mbuyani himself.”
Maate says three suspects were arrested to assist in investigations. This case has been registered at Rukungiri police under file number CRB 1427/2020.
