Police in Kigezi sub-region are investigating circumstances under which the head teacher of Kyabugashe High School in Rukungiri district was killed.
Kamu Kahambisa, aged 47 years, was on Wednesday found dead in his bed with bruises all over his body.
Police said they visited the scene upon receiving the information on Wednesday.
“We arrived at the scene and on checking his body, we discovered that it had bruises but we also discovered samples of food suspected to be poisoned,” said Kigezi Police spokesperson Elly Maate.
Police detectives also retrieved the food samples found in the deceased’s house to help them ascertain whether it had any poisonous contamination that could have caused his death.
He said Kahambisa has been a resident of Butagasi cell in Kinyansano Parish, Rukungiri district.
Mr Maate added that the tragic incident occurred while the deceased’s wife was away in Kampala for business.
“We took the body to Mbarara Referral Hospital for postmortem as we continue with inquiries on file number CRB:703/2019,” said Mr Maate.
He called upon the residents of Rukungiri, especially the teachers, to remain calm as Police carries out through Investigation and therefore should avoid speculation.
Khahambisa was a head teacher of Central High in Rukungiri Municipality, a privately owned school, before he was appointed the substantive Head teacher and posted to Kyabugashe Secondary School where he has been for at least 2 years.
Rukungiri residents expressed shock at the news, saying the deceased was a straightforward speaking man who had helped many people especially youth to attain education.
“We have lost a great pillar in education systems in Rukungiri District,” said the Rev Charles Karenzi, a retired Parish Priest of Kyabugashe COU said.
There will be a funeral memorial service at All Saints Church in Rukungiri Municipality today starting at 4pm before his body is taken to his country home in Marumba in Southern Division of Rukungiri Municipality where burial will take place tomorrow July 19th 2019.
