Up to 20 civil servants in Rukiga district, who have been accused of reporting late to work and absenteeism, will not be paid their September salaries.
Most of these, according district leaders, are health workers in the various health centres in the district.
Herbert Kakaire the district Principal Assistant Secretary told our reporter that salaries are to be withheld as an internal check on persons who want to be paid when they have not done any work.
Kakaire says this action is totally within the powers of the Chief Administrative Officer.
He also says that the district is to carry out a head count of all the civil servants in the district in the health centres, schools, in the sub counties as well as at the district headquarters.
“Late coming and absenteeism is a big problem as well at the district headquarters. We are planning to put up biometric machines as a way of curbing this vice,” said Kakaire.
