The Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, Ruhakana Rugunda has yesterday June 8 2018, visited Liao Shen Industrial Park in Kapeeka and Goodwill Ceramic Uganda Co. Ltd. The parks produce wall and floor tiles made of materials sourced locally in Uganda.
Rugunda who was accompanied by the OPM Permanent Secretary Christine Guwatudde also visited Ho and Mu Food Technology factory that processes mangoes and pineapples for export.
He was received by the Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), Gen Salim Saleh and Zhang Hao, the Chairman/Managing Director of Laio Shen Industrial Park.
The duo briefed the Prime Minister on the recently passed Investment Bill in Parliament, and expressed their concern that it will deter investment due to its far-fetched conditions and hiked threshold that is not practical.
Saleh cited physical planning of Kapeeka as a challenge that needs addressing in order to achieve holistic development.
Hao informed the Prime Minister that the vice of changing policies could scare away investors.
The prime minister commended Saleh for championing economic revolution in Kapeeka.
“This is a very serious project that will transform Uganda from a backward to a modern economy,” Rugunda said.
“It will create jobs and enhance import substitution. It is a major transformation project and I’m glad our brothers, the Chinese are at a heart of it,” he added.
The Prime Minister emphasized that government is credible and will stick to its commitments with Liao Shen Industrial Park.
“I was happy to see quality tiles manufactured in Uganda and our fruits are not going to rot,” Rugunda observed.
He directed UNBS to facilitate the operators quickly to ensure standard compliance and export to other markets.
Liao Shen Industrial Park is scheduled to host Wang Yang, the Chairman of Chinese People’s Consultative Political Conference (CPPCC) who will visits Uganda from 13- 16, June 2018.
