RUGUNDA: Minister Nantaba Not Under House Arrest

The Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has said the State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Idah Nantaba is not under arrest.

Rugunda was on Thursday tasked by the Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament, Roland Mugume, during the Prime Minister’s question time, to explain the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Nantaba from Parliament and social media reports that she is under arrest.

“Right Honorable Prime Minister we would like to know the whereabouts and the liberty of ICT junior Idah Nantaba. We have heard that she is under house arrest,” said Mugume.

Mugume said it was strange for Nantaba, who also represents Kayunga district in parliament, to stay away from Parliament.

“The Minister (Nantaba) is a member of this house but has taken long without (stepping) here,” added Mugume.

ChimpReports understands that Nantaba has not appeared at Parliament for plenary sitting or committee meeting since March 24, 2019 when Ronald Ssebulime was mysteriously shot and killed by police who responded to an alarm made by the state minister.

Rugunda in his response briefly stated that Nantaba, who is now wanted by court, is not under house arrest.

“Honorable Members, our colleague Idah Nantaba is not under house arrest,” said Rugunda.

On June 28, 2019 Mukono Magistrate Court issued summon against Nantaba and three others for causing the death of Ssebulime, who shot and killed when already handcuffed.

The four including police constables, Ronald Opilo, Ronald Baganza and Edward Cherotich are accused by Ssebulime’s sister, Sylvia Nakayita of murder contrary to section 188 and 189 of the Penal Code Act and giving false information to a person employed in public service contrary to section 115 of the Penal Code Act.
