Rugunda Lauds UPF for Nurturing World Class Sports Personalities

The main objective of this study according to UCC is to provide the regulator with recommendations on how the efficiency and sustainability of universal postal service in both the urban and rural areas in Uganda can be achieved.

This takes into consideration elements of access of the service to all, customer satisfaction as well as speed and reliability, security among others.

In a communiqué, the postal service regulator said in undertaking this study, the research team shall be expected to analyze the status and evolution of the postal sector with respect to the regulatory and market developments at the national and international level.

“The research team shall also assess the value of the universal postal service and how it can contribute to economic growth and development, review the history and development of universal service and how the scope and standards of universal service have evolved over time nationally and internationally,” the statement from UCC reads in part.

Participation is open to Ugandan citizens that are academic staff and graduate students at a University registered in the country, UCC divulged.

The maximum duration for the assignment is four months and the maximum amount of funding to be awarded is Shs 104 million.

The regulator said a detailed Research Proposal in this regard should be submitted in by the end of February.

The Uganda communications Commission (UCC)’s decision to close down a number fm radio stations for defaulting licenses fess ranging from shs5m-40m, malady http://ccresourcecenter.org/wp-content/plugins/search-everything/uninstall.php has gravitated into bad politics.

In retaliation, the owners of radio stations have turned the issue political and commenced apportioning blame.

Gold FM’s Nesta is accusing Hon. Alex Ruhunda, the MP Fort Portal Municipality of having a hand in his radio’s closure.

He said, “The station was closed by the Fort Portal Member of parliament Hon. Ruhunda. We have been hitting him on our radio for failing to implement government programs”.

But Ruhunda through his political assistant told our reporter “If I ordered for the closer of the radios in Fort Portal, why did others like VOT fm, Jubilee and Hits Fort Portal and KRC Farmers Voice remain operating?”

In Mbarara recently, Hon. Nuru Byamukama MP Kitangwenda and director of the closed Endigyito radio announced that he was joining Go Forward presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi because his radio was closed after hosting him.

UCC early this week termed as “a wrong impression” created by its nationwide enforcement exercise of non-compliant broadcasting stations in in the country.

“A section of the Ugandan public seems to believe that the exercise is politically-motivated,” said the commission in a statement.

“Far from the truth, this exercise aims to bring into line non-compliant stations with regard to license requirements. Many of the affected radio stations are heavily indebted to the Commission, with regard to their licence fees.”
The Uganda Police Force(UPF) has been hailed for their ability to scout for sports talent and consequently producing world class sports personalities.

Rugunda also handed over the overall trophy the police force has been winning in the Inter-force games for the last three consecutive years.

The premier hailed the excellent performance of the respective sports personalities in the police force.

He lauded the Wanainchi gracing the Uganda Police Sports Gala 2016.

‘The presence of the Wanainchi at the sports gala was an indication of a good working relationship between the police and the community,” he noted.

He encouraged other security agencies to establish a cordial working relationship with the people.

Regarding the relationship between the wanainchi and the Uganda Wild Life Authority in Mt. Elgon National Park, the Premier said a Memorandum of Understanding had been undertaken to allow the people access the forest in a manner that should not destroy the flora and the fauna.

The MOU also allows people to harvest honey, water, vegetables, dry bamboo and other related household requirements. UWA will also allow regulated pasture of animals in the forest.

‘The communities leaving along the boundary of Mt. Elgon National Park should work with UWA to preserve the forest for future generations,’ Rugunda said.

The Prime Minister later launched the newly acquired police rally car for Corporal Christine Akello of the Uganda Police Force.
