Betway Kobs recruited heavily prior to the start of the Uganda Cup and the kind of side put out to face Walukuba Barbarians in Jinja affirmed exactly that.

The Legends outfit travelled to the East with only a handful of their key players but still managed a 71-10 win over their hosts.

Conrad Mukwaya put up a man of the match performance as he crossed over four times in the one sided encounter.

Kobs started with intensity as they searched for an early try to settle any sort of nerves.

The try indeed came early as Davis Kiwalabye touched down after the visitors mauling their hosts over the line.

James Ijongat converted but the home side replied almost immediately as scrumhalf Paul Karungi picked the ball from the scrum and cut through the flat footed Kobs defence to score.

Paul Bwiire converted to level matters but that was the end of the contest as it started raining tries in Kobs’ favour.

There were debut tries for lock Robert Aziku and winger Isaac Tago as Kobs led 35-7 at the half.

The business was completed in the second half as Kobs registered victory in their new kit.

In the other games, Hima Cement Heathens destroyed Kyambogo 134-00 to send a statement following their massive recruitment in the off season.

Defending champions Black Pirates defeated Mbale Elephants 76-17 in Mbale while Plascon Mongers beat Busitema University for dead (165-00) to progress.

Shell Rimula Rhinos beat Soroti Rangers 97-00 while Ivan Makmot’s DusuPay Warriors beat Stallions 35-12.
