There was drama on Tuesday in Rwamucucu sub county in Rukiga district when the area MP Herbert Kabafunzaki clashed with the RDC Pulkeria Muhindo over government face masks which were recently delivered at the district.
Rukiga is among the border districts that government promised to prioritize in distribution of masks back in June.
As such, last week the Ministry of Health delivered a total of 83,540 face masks to the district, which are meant to be distributed next week.
However, a clash broke up during the burial of Faustah Busingye, the wife to the Rwamucucu Sub County LC3 Chairperson Deus William Behangana in Burime parish, when Muhindo commended government for delivering face masks to the district, without mentioning Kabafunzaki’s name.
The former State Minister of labour later picked the microphone and lambasted the RDC for not mentioning him as the one that geared the expedition of the delivery of the face masks.
Kabafunzaki said he wrote over 150 petitions to the Ministry of Health over the delay to bring masks, adding that he even took photos when he was parking them from the Ministry to the district.
When contacted, the Ministry of Health spokesman Emmanuel Ainebyoona said the delivery of government face masks was within the schedule of the Ministry and no politician’s effort mattered. Ainebyoona asked politicians to avoid politicizing government masks.
Kabafunzaki is seeking a second term in parliament but lost in the NRM primaries to Adison Kakuru.
He has since vowed to stand as an independent candidate.
